Clarington Outdoor Rink
The Municipality of Clarington required Architectural and Engineering consulting services for the installation of refrigerated outdoor rinks at the Courtice Community Complex (CCC) in Courtice, ON, and the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex (DHRC) in Newcastle, ON.
To promote year-round community engagement and active living, the Municipality sought to develop refrigerated ice trails and/or pads that could be municipally maintained and remain operational throughout the winter season, independent of weather conditions. Previously, the Municipality relied on temporary, volunteer-maintained ice pads that were subject to weather limitations.
The new refrigerated outdoor rinks are designed to operate from late November through March, providing a reliable winter recreational amenity. In addition to skating, these spaces are intended to function as flexible outdoor hubs, supporting seasonal activities such as markets and pickleball.
